TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE KEARSARGE REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
In the Towns of Bradford, New London, Newbury, Springfield, Sutton, Warner and Wilmot.
There is a community petition to cap spending per student in the district at a significantly lower rate than it is now and in future budgets. This cap would decrease the budget by roughly $10 million dollars. That is equivalent to about 85 teacher salaries and would impact all schools in the district from elementary through high school. Removing 85 teachers from the district would be catastrophic to our education system – where would the cuts be? The arts, music, band, PE, specialists, athletics, and coaching to name just a few areas that would be eliminated or cut drastically. The smaller elementary schools would be eliminated and combined with other ones. We all want lower property taxes, yet this petitioned cap is detrimental to the district.
The School Board voted unanimously to not support this petition, yet since the petition has the signatures of 25 voting residence, it is required to be discussed and voted on at the January 2025 Deliberative Session.
